Our new LGBTQ+ Center is now open to the public! The opening was a great success thanks to wonderful welcoming remarks from President E. Gordon Gee, Provost Joyce McConnell, and the LGBTQ+ director Chris Mayo. Over 300+ people were in attendance for the grand opening on September 21st.
The new Center is located in Hodges Hall G-06. The large lounge area is the first room to walk into. It is very spacious and has great amenities such as a microwave, refrigerator, a T.V. and plenty of comfortable seating. There is also a desk area with a large book shelf filled with Women and Gender Studies genre of books. The center is accepting donations of books to add to the collection.
The center also has a conference room, a classroom and a great computer lab. The computer lab has four brand new Mac desktops for the use of the students! The classrooms are also a great addition and some of the LGBTQ Studies Minor classes are already being held there.
A Women’s Center is also being added in addition to the LGBTQ+ center. A new and separate lounge area will be added on and connected to the LGBTQ+ center.
